Commissioners - Let's Fix This Problem

This idea is picking up speed. I hear more and more people thinking this is the way to go.

As Tim Sheldon proposed a few weeks ago at a briefing, Mason County needs five county commissioners to properly cover the county.

To this let's add a full time county administrator and make the five commissioners volunteer positions. For the privilege of being the most powerful local legislative authority, one would think a properly motivated citizen would be willing to volunteer to be county commissioner.

What do you think, Mason County?

Have a great weekend.

  1. Do we really need five of the same? We have enough problems with the three we've got.

  2. Just read that the Shelton Port Commission had called a special meeting on Monday at 10am to discuss commissioner and staff interaction.

    People should attend this!!

  4. Why is our fair city allowing ADAGE to park it's John Deere baling machine in the yard of the City shop behind loop field? How much money changed hands in order for that to happen?

It's there now. Go to loop field to have a look at it. It came from Kelso.

  5. I just spotted Jim Gaston of ADAGE at Loop Field. I wonder if they will be tabling there?

  6. I love the idea of those positions being volunteer or at least much less pay. This county is broke and we pay over $200,000 a year for them to sell us down the river? We really need a change of the guard, out with the old...

  7. The John Deere machine will be in the parade tomorrow. Jim Gaston mentioned that outside the Port meeting.

  8. I'm in favor of Mason County hiring a fulltime Administrator and the voters electing a board of five commissioners who only receive reimbursement for expenses. However, I'm wondering if all Washington counties are mandated to be organized in a like manner.

  9. Why do we need this layer of parasites? Wealthy land owners who make all the zoning laws plus we have to pay them. What's in that for me?

On a related note I think the city of Shelton should be unincorporated. Shelton is too small to support a city hall and layer of bureaucratic parasites. Lets dissolve the city and join the county. Then we could have decent streets and lower taxes just like the rest of teh county.

  10. Mossy Mom, here's my solution to this big mess. We must become informed voters and then vote. To this end, the League of Women Voters will be holding meetings for citizens to become better informed. Mark your calendars for the evenings of June 15 and June 22 in Belfair and Shelton respectively we'll hold sessions to help the public understand the county budget. More to come on this. Then on August 3 we'll be holding a candidate's night. Also planning is in the works - nothing definite here - to focus on District 3 county commissioner candidates in a special meeting. Better yet come join the League of Women Voters Mason County. We need your energy to become educated on the governments that touch our lives in so many ways.
